Remember that time my sister got on the mic and rapped at her own wedding? That happened, and here it is… My youngest sister got married in Santa Barbara, California last summer at the house of a family friend. The two live in Orange County but are originally from Portland and Sacramento respectively, their day became a destination wedding for both families and short drive for their LA friends.
Since Marin moved away from Oregon I've missed her terribly, she completes our energetic sibling trifecta and without her, it's still great, just different. Her and Austin came to my parent's house for Christmas this year and it was just like old times, jostling for position in front of the bathroom mirror.
Austin, rather stoic and a little more reserved has ever so subtly become a part of our family. I admit that it can be a bit of an experience the first time you sit down to a family dinner with us. We are loud, we yell, we play-fight, we make faces, we can be cruel and totally inappropriate in the best of spirits. But my new brother remained unfazed, at least in public, and I look forward to our relationship growing and evolving as the years go on.
I said I'd never photograph my sister's weddings when they got married, and yet, there I was. Once it came down to that decision, I couldn't think of a more important and valuable gift I could give our two families on Marin and Austin's wedding day. Something they will have for generations. When they pass and their grandkids look at their wedding album I hope they will exclaim with great joy and love that, “THAT, is who my grandparents were! My grandmother was the coolest and she rapped on her wedding day!”
